Hands on
Filter out all the slackers

Today we were outside the classroom. We were getting down to figuring out the mould that we are using for the water filter. There are two water filter types that we are making and so we are learning about both.
It is pretty cool to actually be doing something with my hands and thinking practically with my head. Its something that Uni didnt teach me much of (and which I have a big bugbear about). I want to actually know how to do life, not just learn it in books. So it is exciting to get my hands dirty and have the potential for getting hurt and making mistakes....those dont sound like good things, but they are. Thats how I learn!
Here are a couple of photos of the team pouring concrete we made up into one of the moulds that needs to set till tomorrow. The other photo is of me sifting sand that will be used for inside the filter to filter the water.
My over riding feeling is that I am over my head in all this, though. All the practical, engineering, fixing motors and hands-on guys that are in the team seem to find all this second nature.
Im going to persevere, though. No one made it by giving up!
