So today's lesson was on latrines and how to best build a sanitary long-drop. You can guess how many toilet jokes were being banded about (I was definitely not involved with that being a good missionary type). However, there were a lot of others talking crap...and i told them man,ure not talking like that in front of me...don't be a potty mouth. Its really weird to see your lecturer showing us how he would use a long-drop by squatting.
The photo shows me drinking from our water filter we put the filtering sand into to purify the water. I was thinking how I could just pour dirty water through my big hair to let it filter and be purified. I may look into that...
Barry had led devotions in the morning and had been speaking on the calling of the first disciples and how they let down their nets and caught loads of fish. He was saying that God wants to use all our instruments, all our fishing tackle and nets to bring people to him. We are learning skills that will be used of God to bring people to him. He was also saying that in the church, we have often concentrated on 'saving souls'. In fact, though, who has ever seen a soul? And souls are wrapped up in flesh and blood. If I minister to the flesh and blood, I minister to the soul. I thought this was pretty cool.
Today we wrap up and find out how to make chlorine (for disinfecting water) out of salt! This could be a great party piece - and may become my only skill...!
And then tonight I am going to go to my first american football game - so I will be finding out how wussies play rugby. I will definitely let you know how that one goes.
